Read an article online yesterday about American Olympic Champions - it’s a big financial task to prepare for the championship. It looks like American sportsmen have to “pull their own weight”, from hiring a good coach to buying their own flight tickets. In other countries, such as Russia and UK, talented sportsmen get funded - by the government, by special interest groups… They understand that these people represent their country in a world wide event…. Only the US seems to not grasp the idea.
So, we do not take care of our veterans - there are so many of them walking the streets, homeless, jobless; we don’t take care of our elders - some can’t afford to retire, others have to retire early so they do not starve; we can’ take care of our Olympic champions - people of true talent and dedication… Who do we take care of? We take care of those who can afford to be taken care of - Kardashians, Paris Hilton… Urgh
